Indian snacks like bhel puri, kebabs, pakoras are very popular Indian street foods. Even high profile restaurants have realized the value of these snacks and added these in their menus. These snacks (or chat) can be easily enjoyed on Indian street and restaurants, but let us prepare few of these in our own kitchen and the taste will be more pleasing and the food can also be more hygienic (as Indian street food often treated as unhygienic)

 

Let us prepare Corn Kebabs

Stuff required:

  • 1 Cup Corns
  • 2 boiled potataoes
  • 2 chopped onions
  • Capsicum
  • 1 cup chopped ginger
  • 3 Green Chilies (chopped)
  • Salt
  • Vegetable oil

How to make Corn Kebab:

• Prepare a paste by crushing/grinding the corns. Do not add any water.

• Add potatoes, onion, ginger, capsicum, green chilies and salt to this paste and make a thick mixture.

• make shapes of kebabs out of this mixture.

• Heat vegetable oil in a pan and put the kebabs in it.

• Let the kebabs deep fry until they turn golden brown.

• Take the kebabs out and put on a tissue paper, so that extra oil is absorbed.

• Serve hot with sauce or mint chutney.

Let us prepare Paneer Pakoras

Stuff required:

• Paneer cubes (cottage cheese)

• Gram Flour (Besan)

• Vegetable Oil

• Salt

•Red Chili Powder

• Chopped Green Chilies (Jalapeno)

•Water

How to prepare Paneer Pakoda:

• Add all the ingredients to gram flour and mix well and make a thick batter by adding sufficient water.

• Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan.

• Now dip the paneer cubes and put into the frying pan.

• Fry till the cubes become golden brown

• Take out and put on a tissue paper.

• Serve and sprinkle some chat masala powder to make it more tasty. And as Indians like, serve with a hot cup of tea.

Let us prepare Bhel Puri

Stuff required:

• 100 gm puffed rice (murmurey)

• 2 Boiled Potatoes (peeled and fine chopped)

• Tamarind

• Jaggery

• Mint Leaves

• Chat Masala

• Coriander Leaves

• few Green Chilies

• Salt

• Chopped Onions

How to prepare Bhel Puri:

• make a solution of jaggery and tamarind by boiling these together.

• Grind green chillies and mint leaves and make a thick paste. You can add some water.

• Add some salt and chat masala to boiled and chopped potataoes.

• Take the puffed rice in a bowl (little bigger) and add the chilly and mint leaves paste and mix well.

• Now, add chopped onions, tamarind water, green chilies, potatoes and mix well.

• Bhel Puri is ready. Add some more chat masala powder to make it more spicy and yummy.

Let us prepare Vegetable Pakoras

Stuff required:

• 300 gms gram flour (besan)

• Turmeric Powder

• Coriander Powder

• Chilli Powder

• Chopped vegetables

• vegetable Oil

• Water

• Salt

• baking powder

How to prepare vegetable Pakoras:


  • Prepare a mixture (batter) of gram flour and add turmeric powder, salt, coriander leaves, chilli as per taste. Mix well to make a thick batter.

  • Now dip (full pieces) of cut vegetables in this batter

  • Now, heat the oil in a deep frying pan and put the vegetables (which we dipped in the batter) in it.

  • Fry these until they become golden brown.

  • Now, take pakoras out of the pan and put on tissue papers, so that extra oil is absorbed.

  • Serve hot with sauce and hot cup of tea.

Let us prepare Egg and Bread masala

Stuff required:

  • eight bread slices, made into small pieces
  • three-four eggs
  • few green chillies
  • one onion, finely chopped
  • one tomato, finely chopped
  • half teaspoon chili powder
  • two tablespoon

How to prepare Egg and Bread masala:

  • heat oil in a pan and fry chopped onions till golden brown and also add green chilies.
  • now add bread pieces and fry these properly.
  • after that add beaten eggs in the pan and scramble the mixture.
  • add chili powder, salt and chopped tomatoes and fry for 5-7 minutes. It may take few minutes longer but you will realize that the dish is ready by its pleasant and mouth watering aroma.

Approximate preparation time – 20 minutes

Let us prepare Chicken Pakora

Stuff required:

  • Half kg boneless chicken
  • 50 gram corn flour
  • 100 gm vegetable oil for frying
  • 50 gm gram flour
  • red chili powder as per taste
  • salt as per taste
  • water
  • few tissue papers

How to prepare chicken pakoras:

  • Cut the chicken in small pieces (please take care NOT very small)
  • mix the corn flour and gram flour with water to prepare a thick paste
  • add red chili powder and salt to the paste
  • now, fry the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan.
  • in the meanwhile dip the chicken pieces in the paste. The chicken pieces should get covered uniformly with the paste.
  • now, deep fry the chicken pieces in the oil till they get golden brown.
  • Put the tissue papers (one or two) in a plate and put the fried pakoras on them, so that the tissue absorbs extra oil.
  • Serve hot with mint chutney and finely chopped radish and onion.

Recipe for 4 person

Let us prepare Aloo Chat (Potatoe snacks)

Preparation and Cooking time: 20 minutes

This recipe id for 4 persons

Stuff Required:

  • three large Potatoes, cubed 1/2 inch
  • three teaspoons Lemon juice
  • Salt as per taste
  • one inch piece Ginger, cut into thin strips
  • Oil, for deep frying
  • one large Onion , chopped
  • half teaspoon Chaat masala
  •  half teaspoonRed chilli powder
  • one-fourth Cumin powder
  • two Green chillies, chopped
  • three tablespoons Fresh coriander leaves, chopped

How to prepare Aloo Chat:


  • Take ginger strips and add lemon juice and salt in a container and keep in refrigerator.
  • Heath oil in a pan till it becomes moderately warm.
  • Now, add potato pieces in oil and fry till golden brown.
  • Take the potato pieces out of the oil and put on an absorbant paper and put the potato pieces in a bowl now.
  • Add onions, salt, chaat masala, red chilli powder, cumin powder, green chilies, coriander leaves and  lemon juice and mix the mixture well.
  • Now, serve and garnish with ginger strips.
